XII. Meeting of Hungarian Puppet Theatres
The XII. Meeting of Hungarian Puppet Theatres was held between 15 and 19 October, 2014.
The official program included performances by 20 puppeteer companies. The jury that evaluated and commented on the performances this year consisted of well-known professionals: prof. Hartmut Lorenz, an associate college professor from Germany, Marek Waszkiel, director of Teatr Animacji in Poznan, Zoltán Perovics, the founder-director and production designer of Metanoia Artopedia, Ferenc Sebő, composer and László Upor, dramaturge and literary translator. The professional discussions were conducted by István Nánay, critic.
Several Hungarian-speaking puppet theatres from abroad also felt the importance of participating in the Meeting, so we were happy to welcom the Liliput company of Árkádia CHildren and Youth Theatre in Oradea, the Brighella Puppet company of the Szatmárnémeti Északi Színház in Satu Mare, the puppeteer company of the Csiky Gergely Theatre in Timisoara. Representatives from the Children and Youth Theatre in Subotica and the Meseszínház in Roznava were among our guests as well.
Besides the professional performances the students of the puppeteering and stage directing class from the University of Theatre and Film Arts and the puppeteer students from the University of Art in Tirgu Mures got the chance to present a performance during the off programs. It has become a tradition that at every Meeting a foreign puppet theatre is invited to bring a performance that can give new inspirations for the Hungarian puppetteer community. In 2014 this performance was „The three musketeers” by Divadlo Alfa Puppet Theatre from Plzen.
The XII. Meeting of Hungarian Puppet Theatres was sponsored by the Division of Theatre and Dance Art of the National Cultural Fund of Hungary and the Local Government of Kecskemét.
